Served as deacon and clerk of New Prospect Baptist Church from about 1850 to its disbanding and reunification with Padgett's Creek Baptist in 1889. He wrote a history of Padgett's Creek Baptist Church which was written into the minutes of the Union County Baptist Association. He moved his membership form Padgett's Creek to Clinton First Baptist Church where he remained active until his death.
