Bessie Child was born to Colonel R. Child and Annie Estella Bingham on September 9, 1923. She was the youngest of five children. She was raised in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School.

Bessie was formerly married to Leon M. Manning, and they had four children.

Leon passed away in 1956 and after four years of caring for her four young children alone she married Victor B. Jay in 1960. Her home was in Roy, Utah and then later in Visalia, California for a while. After returning to Utah Bessie and Vic lived in Roy again until his passing in 1987. Following Vic Jay's death, she was reunited with Wayne M. Davis, her High School sweetheart. They had been separated by World War II and after forty years they found each other again. They married in 1988 and continued to live in Roy until Wayne's death in 2010. She lived alone in her own home for another five years and then in 2015 moved into the newly opened Season's Assisted Living home in Farr West, Utah where she has resided for the past seven and a half years. She truly loved living at Season's. Our many thanks to all who cared for her and the many residents who became her dear friends. This was truly a sweet time in her life.

Bessie was always a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and Wayne served a full-time mission to the Canada-Halifax Mission from January 1990 – July 1991. They were always to be found doing something for a friend, neighbor, or family member in need. Bessie is best described by her loving, caring, nurturing spirit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husbands, and one son, Eugene.

Graveside services will be held at 11a.m. on Friday, May 19, 2023, at the Clinton City Cemetery, 813 No. 750 W., Clinton, Utah.
