Obituary (from the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow funeral home website):

Leslie Nolan Royal was born to the late Arthur Nolan Royal and Juanita Walker Allen in Waco, Texas on January 18, 1948. Les passed away quickly in the comfort of his wife's arms on April 14, 2022 at their home in Dallas. He and his devoted wife, Martha Stuckey Royal, were married for 53 years. Les was preceded in death by brothers Allen Dewitt Royal and Lynn Edward Allen, uncles R.C. Walker and Jack Walker, and aunts Reba Waller and Leona Walker. He is survived by Martha, and her sister Carron Brown and husband Harry Brown, and his aunts Catheryn Hodnett and husband William, and Edna Sandlin and husband Fenton.

Les received his Master's Degree in Educational Administration from East Texas State University. He started his early career in education then moved into the technology field as his professional life matured. Les always had a love of learning and all things ephemera which yielded an extensive library of rare, first-edition signed books.

Les was a man of faith. He was a proud father to son Dean Royal and wife Kunyu Ching, and daughter Kelly Sullivan and husband Jon. Les and Martha's joys in life included their grandchildren Evelyn, Max, and Liza Sullivan and any event where family are gathered with music and good food. Les loved and treasured his time with family members Pam and John Waller, Nancy Allen, Patrick Allen and wife Tamera and their sons James Bryant and Brett, and Scott Allen and wife Rachel and their children Maddison and Nathan Courtney-Kudell.

In recent years Les rekindled his love for creating art, and was particularly proud of what he was able to accomplish with the watercolor medium. Some of his proudest accomplishments came at the stroke of his brush. Les painted both landscape and still life but his most rewarding pieces were his portraits. His hobby rendered close to one hundred paintings in just a few years. His art was a reflection of his philosophy that if you put your mind to anything, it can be done.

Les loved providing for others and sharing his life experiences. He could tell some of the most captivating and fantastical stories; he was larger than life in so many ways. The underlying truth in every story was his zest for living life to the fullest and challenging others to do the same. Whether co-worker, neighbor, or stranger, he treated everyone like family. Les had a big heart and used his gift of storytelling to share his love for life and passion for art and history.

The family sends its love and appreciation to Koffee Kup Family Restaurant partners, Irene Leach and Pat Johnson, and its many beloved employees.

All celebration of life services will be held in McKinney at Turrentine Jackson Morrow Ridgeview Memorial Park, Highway 75, Exit 38A, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013 (www.tjmfuneral.com).

Visitation and reception will be held on Thursday, April 21st from six to eight o'clock in the evening. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 23rd at a half past ten o'clock in the morning.
