Son of Henry Nichols Flowers and Anna Catherine Hennington. Sibling to; Wright Everett, Henry, Mary Susannah, Martha A., Wilson Hardy, Silas Green, and Willie J. Flowers.
Served as a Pvt. during the Civil War in CSA Army of TN, 8th MS Infantry Co. C. He died from gunshot wounds sustained during the Stones River battle that took place of Dec 31, 1862 outside Murfreesboro. He was taken captive and held as a POW until his death. Two of John's brothers were also in Co. C of the 8th MS Infantry Regiment they were known as the "True Confederates. 21-year old John Spencer Flowers died on 7 Feb 1863 from gunshot wounds to his thigh. His 18-year old younger cousin, Lafayette died ten days after the battle from his wounds. Two others brothers Henry and Wright, were both wounded in that battle, they survived the War.
