In 1976 she met Charles "Chuck Coppotto, who would be her husband and life partner. They married in 1979 while residing in Alameda. Linda obtained her bachelor of arts degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies from California State University, Hayward. She went on to hold a variety of positions in the computer and tech industry. She obtained her master of international business degree from Golden Gate University in 1980. After frequently visiting the North Coast, Chuck and Linda fell in love with the area and in 1984 purchased a vacation home. They moved to Gualala permanently in 1998 and acquired the "Rosella," a commercial fishing vessel. Linda and Chuck worked side by side fishing for salmon and crab for 15 years.
After retiring from commercial fishing, Linda got involved in the community by working with the ESL children's program at Point Arena Union Elementary School. She was instrumental in the development of the Spanish GED program for coastal residents, and she volunteered at the Gualala Community Center. For nine years, she served as the production director of the Redwood Coast Review (a publication of Friends of Coast Community Library in cooperation with the ICO).
" She found immense joy in working with children and helping them learn and flourish," said her husband, Chuck. "She enjoyed gardening and especially spending countless hours tending her rhododendrons. She loved traveling, visiting and entertaining friends and family. She was creative, adventurous, energetic, and lived life to its fullest, She was loved by many and will be greatly missed."
Linda was preceded in death by her parents James and Bertha Bennett; sisters Charlotte, Nancy, and Marlin. She is survived by Chuck, "her loving husband of 44 years," her siblings, Donna Warner, Maggie Stark, Jim Bennett and Junia Thomas, and her beloved nieces, cousins, and countless lifelong friends. The family requests that any donations be made to the American Cancer Society. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
