Mrs. Anne Holbert Bevis, 64, wife of Emmet Bevis, died at 3:28 Wednesday morning in the Sellers Hospital after a long illness.

Mrs. Bevis was born in Salado, Tex. on June 27, 1883 to Augustus Jones Mackey and Mary Helen Rose Mackey. She grew up on a sheep ranch near Kempner, Tex., attended school in Kempner and was graduated from Lampasas, Tex. High School in 1903. She attended Baylor University and earned a Master of Accounts diploma from Tyler Commercial College in 1905.

On May 24, 1913, she married Emmet L. Bevis in Lampasas at the home of her parents. Mr. Bevis was agent for the Rock Island in Lone Wolf where they made their first home, moving from there to Granite in 1918. The family moved to Mangum in 1937 when Mr. Bevis became Rock Island agent here. Mrs. Bevis played the violin and the piano and was an avid reader.

Mrs. Bevis was strong in her faith. For nineteen years she taught the Young Persons Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church in Granite where she also served as church clerk. In Mangum she was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Thursday at the First Baptist Church, Mangum, with the Reverend Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will be at the Riverside cemetery under direction of Greer Funeral Home.

Survivors are her husband, Emmet Bevis , Mangum; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Pace, Dallas, Tex.; Miss Lora Jane Bevis, Lindsey; one son, Joe Bevis, Stillwater; one sister, Mrs. J.T. (Helen) Pickett, Palestine, Tex.; four brothers, John Rose Mackey, Worthan, Tex.; Gordon Mackey, Temple, Tex.; Dr. A.J. Mackey, Flagstaff, Ariz. and William A. Mackey, Los Angeles, Calif.
