Abraham enlisted July 17, 1863 to serve in the 45th Regiment of Ohio Volunteers for three years. According to his enlistment papers he was 32 years old, 5' 11" tall, had fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, and by occupation was a farmer. At the time of his enlistment, he left an expectant wife and five children at home. He was captured Oct. 20, 1863 at the battle of Philadelphia, Tenn. His brother Daniel was also captured the same day. Abraham died March 25, 1964, a prisoner of war in Libby Prison, Richmond, VA. The stated cause was ill treatment. His body is buried at the prison cemetery but his life is dedicated on the marker that marks his wife Nancy's grave. Daniel died May 30, 1864 at Andersonville, Georgia and is buried at Andersonville grave #984.
