Wayne Lee DeSotel, 85 of Monona, Iowa passed away Friday, May 5, 2023 at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

Wayne was born December 14, 1937 to Emil and Irene (Lindroth) DeSotel in Postville, Iowa. He graduated from Monona High School on June 13, 1959.

On June 13, 1959, Wayne was united in marriage with Sharon Wendel at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa.

Wayne worked at REC for many years.

He loved to build airplanes and built two. Wayne was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and volunteered 50 plus years at Airventure.

Wayne was very handy and would help anyone who needed it. He enjoyed helping fix things at St. John Lutheran Church and was the President of Luana City Cemetery and was on the church board.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon DeSotel; his parents, Emil and Irene DeSotel, his oldest son, Steven DeSotel; and his siblings, Darlene, Gordy and Nyla.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Monona, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Saturday.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church in Luana, Iowa with Vicar Jeremy Wolfe as the officiant.

Burial will follow at Luana City Cemetery in Luana, Iowa.
