=================================================

Marion Brown Totten, age 96, passed away at her home in Pensacola, FL on November 20, 2013. Marion was a resident of Pensacola for over 30 years. She was born in Parish of DeSota in South Mansfield, Louisiana to Charles Douglas and Pearl McCall Douglas, as their second of two children. First born was Emily Douglas Campbell. Marion was married twice. Her first marriage was to Leonard Irving Brown (Charlie) from Missouri (9/1940-10/1978). Her second marriage was to Stanley Wilbur Totten from Orange County, New Jersey (5/1916-3/1998). Marion and Charlie had one daughter, Susan Reynolds Brown, Oberlander (9/1940-3/1922). Marion was preceded in death by her mother, father, both husbands, and daughter. She was preceded in death by her nephew Lowery Douglas Campbell of Michigan.

Marion led a very active life. She was a long time member of PCC, PYC, Krewe of Les Gals and Maids of Myrth, two of the oldest Lady Krewes in Pensacola. After her education was completed at LSU, she met the love of her life and would later marry Charlie Brown. Marion was to set sail for Singapore, where they would meet and marry, but the day her ship was to leave a San Francisco port, Hitler invaded Poland. Charlie's occupation was a geologist for Standard Oil Company of California. The company had other plans for Charlie and said "no soap" and the wedding was postponed for 2 years. In 1940, Charlie was transferred to New Orleans. They were married and four years later had a baby girl named Susan. In March of 1992, Susan lost her life to cancer. Marion and Charlie moved from state to state because of Charlie's occupation. They resided in Calgary, Canada for ten years. Their trips and special cruises took them to interesting places such as, Alaska, China, Japan, Austria, Germany, Australia, and other cruises to the Caribbean Islands. After Charlie passed, Marion remarried again to Stanley Totten. Stan was also a geologist in the petroleum industry. Her lifestyle remained unchanged. They settled in Pensacola and after 15 years together, Stan passed away in March 1998.

Three weeks after Stan passed, Marion did not want to live alone and decided to contact companion/caregivers to care for her and take care of a few needs. Thanks to TLC Caregivers, Inc. and West Florida Home Care for their service. Thanks to Pauline Callahan of TLC for her loyalty, concern, and dedication to Marion for 16 years. Thanks to Bertha Martin of West Florida Home Care for her loyalty, dedication, and concern for 12 years. Thanks to Betty Fitzgerald of West Florida Home Care who served as a trustworthy and caring companion/caregiver for six years.

Marion was an avid reader and history buff. She was an engaging conversationalist and story teller. Her interest was collections of "Blue Willow" dishes, buying antique furniture and displaying several pieces in her home. She also loved hosting parties and playing bridge with friends.

A special thanks to Barbara Quinn, Synovus Trust officer, for all the hard work and care in devotion to Marion's needs. Also thanks to her previous long time Trust officer, Connie Cox, who gave years of her time, concern and love to Marion. Thanks to Spencer Mitchem, who served as Marion's attorney for many years. He has been there when she has needed him and took her needs to heart. Thanks to others who have been of service: Hairdressers-Debra's of Warrington, Nails-Candy Leggett and Housekeepers-Merry Maids.

The Estate of Stanley and Marion gave an outstanding Philanthropic Legacy gift to the Baptist Foundation and other gifts to various charities.

Arrangements by Oak Lawn Funeral Home. 619 New Warrington Rd., Pensacola, FL.

A Memorial Service will be held in early 2014. If you wish to be notified to attend this service, please call Barbara Quinn, Synovus Turst Company, (850) 436-6537.
