Evelyn Dale Hill, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at the age of 96.
Evelyn was born November 4, 1917, in Raton, New Mexico, to Addie and W. R. (Ray) Dale. Her family moved to Amarillo, TX where Evelyn graduated from Amarillo High School in 1934.
W. J. (Jay) Hill, Jr. and Evelyn were married in 1938 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1988. Evelyn and Jay lived on Hill Ranch near Bushland for 30 years.
Evelyn earned both a BS and a Master's Degree from West Texas State University. Evelyn worked for several years as a professional Girl Scout and was the camp director at the Girl Scout Camp near Amarillo. Evelyn taught Special Education students in Amarillo ISD for 10 years.
She and Jay attended San Jacinto Methodist Church in Amarillo. She served on many committees, taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school.
Evelyn was a long time member of Beta Sigma Phi, and one year was the Sweetheart of Beta Sigma Phi. In addition Evelyn was a member of several ladies clubs such as sewing club and bridge club. The Hills went on many road trips with friends.
Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her daughter Virginia Dale Hill, and by her husband Jay Hill. She is survived by her son Dr. W. J. Hill, III and wife Sara of College Station, three grandsons, Scott Hill and wife Yvette, Dr. Barry Hill and wife Dr. Vanessa Hill, Andrew Hill and wife Julie, and eight great-grandchildren: Aidan, Tatum, Cole, Macie, Molly, Hadley, Elliot, and Drew.
The family suggests memorials be sent to Cal Farley's at Ranch P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174-0001 or Still Creek Ranch 6055 Hearne Rd, Bryan, TX 77808.
A grave side service will be on Monday, July 28, 2014, at 10:00 am at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas with Pastor John Love officiating.
