Maynard P Mangelson
August 16, 1944 - January 8, 2018
Maynard P Mangelson died peacefully at his home on January 8, 2018. He was born August 16, 1944 in Payson, Utah to LeGrande and Reba Poulsen Mangelson.
He grew up in Levan and attended elementary school there. He graduated from Juab High in Nephi, Utah. He attended one semester at BYU before serving a 2 ½ year mission in Holland. After his mission he returned to BYU where he met the love of his life, Sandra "Jeanne" McDaniel. They were married Aug 25, 1967.
While attending school in Provo their first child, Jeff was born in 1969. After graduation, the family moved to Lava Hot Springs, where he accepted a job at Lava Elementary. He taught in the elementary school, middle school and high school for the next thirty years. He was a master teacher who was able to captivate his students through tools such as a Ben Franklin costume and a viking helmet. He loved his students and was always willing to help them and encourage them in any way he could. After his retirement, he reluctantly learned how to use a computer, where he was able to do a lot of family history indexing. Maynard loved to visit with family, friends, and strangers. He would tell stories to anyone and everyone, willing or unwilling. There was no such thing as a stranger around Maynard.
Maynard is survived by his wife, Sandra, five children Chris (Mira), Sean (Selina) Sharon, Spencer, (Melanie) and Travis, as well as his 15 grandchildren, In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David and son, Jeffrey Maynard.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 12 at 12 noon in the Lava LDS Chapel. Friends may visit the family at the church on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to the service.
