There will be a funeral at 1:30 PM, Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Beck Memorial Home, in Bloomington. Pastor Mark Wallace will officiate and military rites will be performed by the Bloomington Normal American Legion Honor Guard. There will be a visitation from 4 - 7 PM Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at the memorial home, with a Masonic Service at 6:45 PM. Interment will be in Park Hill Cemetery, in Bloomington.
Elmer was born in McLean, IL, on August 22, 1926, to Charles and Dorothy Moran McWhorter.
He married Mary Montgomery. She preceded him in death in 2009. Also preceding him in death were many brothers and sisters and his grandson, Chris McWhorter.
He is survived by two sons; one daughter-in-law; a grandson; great-grandson and two brothers.
Elmer joined the United States Navy at an early age and was a proud veteran who served in both World War II and the Korean War. After serving in the military, he was a truck driver for more than 60 years. He was also very proud to be a member of the Bloomington VFW, Masonic Lodge #43 Wade Barney and was a Shriner. He attended Crossroads Chapel in Bloomington and enjoyed carpentry and flipping homes.
Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Chapel or the Bloomington Normal American Legion Honor Guard.
