Dora is the daughter of Calvin Myers and Rachel Alice Mitchell. She is a sister to Rachel Fidelia "Delia", Jurella "Julie", Mira and Jettie Myers.

She married James William Gregory and they are the parents of Raymond McKinley, Ina G, Esther Virginia, Eva Genette, Ava Mary and Clusie Luvar Gregory.

James William Gregory was reportedly killed by one of his brothers sometime between July 1917 and 1920 and his body disposed of in a well, the murder reportedly as retaliation for James having an affair with the brother's wife. A deathbed confession by one of his brothers revealed the story of his fate to his and Dora's daughters years later.

With her husband's death Dora was left to raise 6 children under the age of 12. Around the same time she lost her mother, her sister, Fidelia and then her father in 1917, 1918 and 1919, respectively.

Dora was sent to the asylum in December 1925 and, according to her death certificate, hanged herself there the following July. According to her death certificate she hung herself with small strips of cloth torn from her bed clothing and used the door of her room for scaffolding.
