Jack Richard Decker 1918 ~ 2008

Jack Richard Decker, formerly of Salt Lake City, passed away four days after his 90th birthday, on February 5, 2008 at his home in Paradise Valley, Arizona. He had lived for 42 years in the home he designed and had built from the beautiful Turquoise Stone of Park Valley, Utah. The quarry was owned by his close friend and law associate Glen E. Fuller. Jack's home held his extensive book collection covering many varied subjects from history, economics, quantum theory, string theory, Mayan ruins, the latest medical discoveries. Many covered the countries he visited. Jack read voraciously, retaining what he had read, sharing with anyone willing to listen and discussing the ideas he entertained. Jack was born February 1, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah the first child of six of Wayne and Evelyn Snow Decker. He attended Lafayette Elementary, Bryant Jr. High, East High, and graduated at the age of 20 from the University of Utah with a B.A, in Mathematics. He spent entire summers, when young, at his beloved Holiday Park in the Uinta Mountains with relatives on both sides of the family. Jack served a two year mission in Australia for the LDS Church. Upon his return to the states he attended Columbia University in N.Y., taking all the accounting classes offered, until his study there was interrupted by World War II. He served nearly four years as an officer in the U.S. Army in several different combat zones including the Anzio Beachhead in Italy. He ran the PX at the army base in New Orleans, LA and then became Cargo Security officer aboard Liberty Ships transporting troops to the Mediterranean area. Following his discharge as a 1st Lieutenant, he then attended and graduated from Stanford University Law School in 1948. While at Stanford he married LeJeune Young on March 27, 1946. She too was a resident of Salt Lake City, Utah. He became a member of The Utah Bar Association and practiced law for many years with his close friend and partner Glen E. Fuller. He moved to the Phoenix area where he enjoyed his books, classical music, and his family. Jack Decker is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, LeJeune; daughter: Kristina D. Efimenko, Alex Efimenko and their children, Milanka Cameron (Matt), Katya Brunette (Peter) and Mikola Efimenko; son, Todd K. (Diane) and their three sons, Garrett, Logan and Satchel Decker. Jack is also survived by two brothers, H. Wayne and Ashby S. Decker, and one sister, Marjorie D. Horton. Two sisters preceded him in death: Mary D. Bott and Evelyn Snow. There is to be no funeral.
