family info contributor:
He was born William J. Nevills,Feb.17,1839 in Canada. His parents of Irish and English descent immigrated to the Watertown, New York area, from Canada, around 1850. There his sister "Kittie" was born.
Like many coming to the United States at that time, his parents dream was to own land and and raise their family to work the land.
War was in the air and on Feb.18,1862, at the age of 23, William enlisted at Watertown, N.Y. and 5 days later became a private in Company K New York 94th Infantry Regiment.
Sometime thereafter, when his service ended,William married Sally Jane Miles in Philadelphia, Jefferson Co., N.Y. From this marriage, they had four children: Edie 1868, Frank 1870, Sarah 1872, & William A.1873.
For reasons unknown, he left his family in New York and moved to Cole Camp, Missouri before 1880. There he began a second marriage with Eliza Miles, a sister to his first wife. This marriage produced no children as Eliza became ill and died shortly thereafter.
While at Cole Camp, William worked for Solomon Schell and in Dec. 1881 married Solomon's granddaughter "Mary E. Newton".
During their time at Cole Camp,Missouri; William & Mary would have 2 children: Kitty May 1883 and James Leroy 1886.
Soon the Oklahoma Territory would open up and become the last "land rush" in the United States. So the Schell and Nevills family left Missouri, to become apart of American history. It was on that journey Solomon's wife "Mary" would become ill and pass away.
She was buried near Edmond,Oklahoma in the year of 1892.
The family settled at Hartzel, Oklahoma Co.,Oklahoma.
In 1901, my grandfather, Harold William Neville was born.
Sometime before 1905 they would make one more move.
Finally settling on the good farm land at Turkey Creek,in Western Bourbon Co.,Kansas
Kitty married Walter Baptist and James married Eva Julian. The banks of Turkey Creek would became the place for the Neville's to began their new families.
Grandfather Harold grew up and married my grandmother Maude M. Mix. Together they had three children, born at Turkey Creek: Maurice C., my father Merle E.,and their sister Maxine.
