I believe he is attached to the wrong parents. Kansas census reports for 1915, 1920 and 1930 show his parents as being John Oliver and Iva Marie (Jones) Baptist.

Oren C. "Dutch" Baptist, formerly of San Rafael, CA, passed away Sunday, April 18th, 2004.

He was born October 17th, 1912 in Uniontown Kansas.

He grew up in Bourbon County, Kansas before graduating from the University of Kansas in 1940.

During WWII he worked for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers as a Geologist, and several major oil companies as a Petroleum Engineer. During this time he was in Colombia, Alamogordo, NM, and Wyoming.

In 1947 he began working for the U.S. Bureau of Mines in Laramie, Wyoming, and in 1968 he moved his family to San Rafael, California to work as Research Director for the Bureau in San Francisco until his retirement in 1976.

After retirement he researched and authored three books regarding his Family Genealogy and history.

He loved fishing, traveling, reading poetry, and mountain climbing. He enjoyed sharing his Roses and telling stories to all who enjoyed them.

At his request no services will be held and the family asks that you donate to your favorite charity in his name if you so desire.

To quote from one of his favorite poems, "The river ran its allotted span till it reached the silent sea...."

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years Ellen; a daughter Linda Stockton one grandson Sean Barry and wife Tylene; and twin great-granddaughters, Isabella and Breana.
