Charles was preceded in death by his grandson, Adam Romero, his parents, Alfredo Sr. and Beneranda Romero, his father-in-law, Eduardo Salazar, mother-in-law, Adelina Salazar and his brothers, Fidel Romero, Acorcinio Romero and Alfredo Romero Jr.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Ermelinda Romero, children, Patty Trujillo (Nick), Charlene Trujillo (Orlando), Clyde Romero (Veda), Larry Romero (Myrna), who he also thought of as a daughter, Mark Romero (Jessica), Joseph Romero (Crystal), Annabelle Romero, Timothy Romero and Johnny Sandoval (Melanie), special grandchildren who helped with his care, Julie Trujillo and Isaiah López, nephew who he considered a son, Steve Martínez, sisters, Oclides, Rosinia, Evila Romero and Viola Martínez, 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Charles retired from the Los Alamos National Laboratory over 30 years ago where he was a custodian and was very proud of his work.
His favorite past time was anything outdoors from tending to his vegetable garden, to his farm animals, to spending time in the mountains. But nothing brought him the most joy than spending time with his family and his dog, Cody. His beautiful smile and big green eyes would shine the brightest when he was around his family. Charles was known as the sharpest dressed cowboy in Córdova, NM.
Public visitation will begin on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home, devotional service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 10:00 a.m., also in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Córdova Presbyterian Cemetery in Córdova, NM. Honoring the family as pallbearers will be Charlie Trujillo, Michael Trujillo, Kenneth Romero, Nathan Romero, Christopher Romero, Isaiah López and Steve Martínez. Honorary pallbearers will be Julie Trujillo, Olivia Romero, Tyler López, Eric Romero and Cruzita Romero.
