Adair Morey McKoy III Edisto Island - Adair Morey McKoy III woke up in Heaven in the arms of his beloved Jesus on Sunday, March 21, 2021. Adair was born in Wilmington, NC on October 1, 1941, the eldest son of the late Adair Morey McKoy, Jr. and Priscilla Grainger McKoy.
He graduated [in 1960] from Edmunds High School in Sumter, SC (https://www.edmundshigh.com/alumni.html?x=info&c=60) and attended Clemson University. Shortly after he served in the U.S. Marine Corps (Where everyday is a holiday and no job is ever a chore! He loved it!)
He married the love of his life, Boone Jenkins, and moved to Wadmalaw Island, where he was introduced to the lowcountry. After working at Bears Bluff Marine Lab on Wadmalaw Island and for Gilbert Maggioni in the oyster business out of Beaufort, SC, he knew all the creeks and rivers up and down the coast like the back of his hand! He then began his farming career. Farming was one of his true passions and spent nearly the next 60 years working the soil and growing grains and vegetables, especially tomatoes.
Adair was an active member of St. John's Parish Church, serving as senior warden and on vestry. He was very active in the Cursillo and Kairos Ministries.
He served as president of the SC Tomato Association. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Boone Jenkins McKoy and his four children: Katie McKoy Stachelek (Rich), Adair Morey McKoy IV (Missy), Helen McKoy Russell (Whitt), and Betsy McKoy Johnsman (Greg); his seven grandchildren: Jeanie Stachelek Moore (Matt), Micah Stachelek (Liz), Caroline Russell, Whit Russell, Graydon McKoy, Victor Johnsman and Moses Johnsman; two great-grandchildren, Adair Moore and Josie Moore; one brother, Victor Grainger McKoy (Floride) of Stateburg, SC. He was preceded in death by his, brother, Dr. Peter Brice McKoy (Peggy) of Camden, SC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. John's Parish Church, 3673 Maybank Highway, Johns Island, SC 29455. Adair truly loved the Lord and was always eager to witness and share the love of Jesus to others. He had a way with people and plants.
