Alice Virginia David Love, 82, passed away on October 12, 2022, at Harbor Memory Care in Stanardsville, Virginia. She was born on January 4, 1940, in her parents' home in Hurt, Virginia. In 1995, Alice and her husband, John Love, built their retirement home at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Stanardsville, after raising their family and moving from Manassas, Virginia.

Alice was raised in Pittsylvania County and graduated from Gretna High School in 1958. She continued her education and was a graduate of Lynchburg General Hospital School of Nursing and studied accounting at Northern Virginia Community College. Alice was a Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) for more than 30 years. She worked in long term care, advancing to Director of Nursing in a 250-bed facility, and a managerial consultant for long term care companies. Upon retirement, Alice enjoyed traveling with her husband, visiting all 50 states.

Alice was a talented seamstress, knitter, and crocheter, creating beautiful works of clothing, blankets, and afghans for family and friends. Her decorative arts adorned many Christmas trees. She was also a great cook and avid rose gardener. Alice enjoyed many family trips to the beach, especially with her children and grandchildren while shelling on Sanibel Island, Florida during the winter months. Alice was an enthusiastic sports fan and could be found on the pool deck, or sidelines cheering on her children and later her grandchildren.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Goldie David and Claudia Leslie Hudson David, her only sister, Susie Thruston (Giles), and six of her seven brothers: William David (Dorothy), James David (Betty), Joseph David (Hettie), Kenneth David (Ruth), Odell David (Irene), and Russell David.

Alice leaves behind her brother Paul David (Nancy); devoted husband of 60 years, John Douglas Love, and their four children Cynthia Love Thierry (Tom), Bryan Love (Julie), Richard Love (Kyle), and Sarah Love, DVM (Joel); five beloved grandchildren Allison and Jacob Thierry, David and Dasha Love, Violet Love, and Megan Love (deceased); two great-grandchildren Ezra and Nile; and many loved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 22, 2023 at New Prospect Baptist Church in Hurt by the Rev. Brady Willis. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.
