Margaret was born July 11, 1926 in McDowell County to the late Boyd and Naomi Barnwell. She retired from Beacon Manufacturing and The Cove; and she attended Calvary Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Douthit.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Betty Champion (Randy) of Swannanoa, Wanda Hill (Fred) of East Flat Rock, and Sandra Laster of Hendersonville; sister, Dorothy Hensley of Swannanoa; brother, Donald Barnwell (Sue) of Swannanoa; grandchildren, Chris Champion, Leslie Champion (Anthony Nance), Renee Ball (Billy), Lynn Sibbett, Becky James (Nelson), and Michael Laster; and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 2:00 to 3:00pm at Harwood Home for Funerals and Cremation Services. A celebration of life service will immediately follow at the funeral home.
Burial will be on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 12:00pm at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
