Mr. James Stanford Abernathy, I of Dallas, Georgia passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023 at Wellstar Paulding Hospital. He was born on September 12, 1942 in Cartersville, Georgia to Mrs. Darley Arizona Howell Abernathy and Mr. John Thomas Abernathy. He was married to Mrs. Diane Dudley Abernathy for 59 years. He was a member of the Dallas Lodge 182 and The American Legion Post 42 in Cartersville, Georgia. He loved spending time at the Cherokee Camper Park in Cedar Bluff, Alabama.
Mr. Abernathy is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John and Darley Abernathy; brother, Silas Abernathy; brother, W.B. Abernathy; sister, Curdie Hardin; sister, Cladie Abernathy; brother, E.R. Abernathy; sister, Mahala Taylor; brother, Doyle Abernathy, Sr; twin brother, Earl Abernathy.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Abernathy; daughter, Hope Lawrence (Ty); son, Stan Abernathy (Kim); grandchildren, Brittany Black (Clint), Erica Foley, Tangela Ratteree, Lauren Black (Wayne), Colton Abernathy; great grandchildren, Alia Cross, Clayton Cross, Riley Cross, Raelyn Cook, Kennedi Cook, Colton Black, Paxton Foley, Hadley Foley, Harrison Black; brother, Wayne Abernathy; brother, Philip Abernathy, Sr. (Millie); nieces and nephews; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tony Dudley (Charlene).
Funeral Services for Mr. James Stanford Abernathy, I will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 4:00 P.M. at Narroway Baptist Church with Rev. Merle Barron officiating. Interment will follow at Narroway Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Todd Tibbitts officiating.
The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at Benson Funeral Home. Also, Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 2:00 P.M. - 3:30 P.M. at Benson Funeral Home.
