The daughter of Sterling Gunter of Buncombe Co NC, late of Franklin, Williamson Co TN, her unknown mother died sometime before 1820.

Matilda married Reverend Thomas Armstrong on 14 Nov 1822 in Williamson Co TN, the son of William & Alianna (Hill) Armstrong. They had ten children, five sons and five daughters.

Marriage Bond 14 Nov 1822, Williamson Co TN Bondsman:
"Wm. McFadden; Applied for license Nov 11, married Nov 14"
