William Ruthertords Celebrate 60th Date of Wedding at Hamlin,Texas.
Feb. 5. (RNS-The Rev. and Mrs. William F. Rutherford, of McAllen,Texas formerly of Hamlin, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in the home of The Rev. J. A. Young of Hamlin.
The Rutherfords were married by the Rev H. C. Hines in Abilene. Mrs. Rutherford is the former Sadie Mason Humphreys of Abilene.
Mr. Rutherford moved to the United States at the age of 6 from England. and he spent his boy-hood days on a ranch near Paint Rock, Texas.
The Rutherfords have lived in Hamlin four different times,for a total of 15 years. He was a minister at the Nazarene Church during his years in Hamlin.
They had one child, Geraldine, who died when she was 19. Mr. Rutherford was the founder of the Central Nazarene Academy of Hamlin. which burned several years ago.
Mr. Rutherford Is 71 and Mrs. Rutherford is 69.
As a result of pastor Rutherford's retirement Aunt and Uncle Rutherford moved from Hamlin in 1939 to McAllen, Texas. He is a supply minister around McAllen. Mr. and Mrs. Rutherford operates a citrus fruit orchard in McAllen.
Every year just before Christmas a bushel of grapefruit and oranges would be delivered to my grandparents(Sadie's brother) home at 1201 Mulberry St. in Abilene, Texas. The fruit was always from aunt Sadie and uncle William Rutherford's citrus orchard.
cause of death was bladder cancer. During her last days she was cared for by her sister, Rose Lee Humphreys/ Bowyer and her brother-in-law, Dr. Otis Mcdonald Bowyer of Anson, Texas. Aunt Sadie died at their home in Anson, Texas.
