Thomas Batey GOFORTH came to Arkansas in 1854 from Rutherford County, North Carolina, and settled in Yellville, Marion County. He was elected county
surveyor and surveyed the Town of Yellville. In 1858, he moved to Baxter County, settling near Big Pond. His home was the only one between the mouth of Northfork River and Mountain Home. In 1886, elected surveyor of Baxter County; had office for many years. He was a Mason, a Royal Arch Mason, and in the Confederate Army he served under Sterling Price.
He first married Rebecca Avaline Watson in Rutherford Co.,N.C. She was the mother of the daughter Susan Eveline Goforth.
