The sad news is received by telegraph of the death at Newark, California, of Harold, aged three years and two months, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Altgilbers, formerly of this city. The family, parents, and four children left for California in February last, hoping that the change of climate would prove beneficial to the health of Mr. Altgilbers, who, up to that time, had been employed at the Excelsior Foundry.

The message of death was received by Mrs. Frank Neff, of Fifth and Chestnut, mother of Mrs. Altgilbers, and merely announced the demise, and the fact that the body would be brought home for burial.

Mr. Altgilbers is the son of Mrs. Henry A. Meyer, 1621 North Eighteenth street, and she was informed of the receipt of the message by Mrs. Neff. No intimation of sickness in the family had been received here, and all were well two weeks ago, when a letter was received from there.

The death of the child must, therefore, have been very sudden. Further particulars are expected before the arrival of the parents with the body.

Harold was an exceptionally bright child, and being the only son, was the idol of his family and relatives.

- The Quincy Daily Herald, Quincy, Illinois; Friday, July 19, 1907; page 2.

NB: There was no exact date of death given in the notice. It cannot be assumed all telegrams were sent the same day a death occurred. In this case the exact date the telegram was sent/received was not included in the notice, either.

There is a "Harold Altgilber" listed in the cem. records but the date and age do not match this one. This decedent's notice has age 3 years 2 months. Cem. record has a person at 4 years 3 months, and who died almost a week after this notice appeared.
