Donald Clifton "Don" Bansen Jr., age 101, of Bradenton, FL passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2021.


Donald was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 23, 1920. He was the second child of Donald C. Bansen and Ann Sherwood Bansen. Don attended public schools in Glenolden, PA until the 10th grade when he transferred to George School, a Quaker coeducational boarding school in Newtown, PA where he graduated in 1939. He also graduated from the Rising Sun School of Aeronautics and was employed by Pan American Airways in the Maintenance Department for 40 years. He spent two and a half years in the United States Navy during World War II as an Aviation Machinist Mate First Class. He was active in the Boy Scouts and Little League during his 33 years in Farmingdale, NY.


After moving to Bradenton in 1984 he was active in the Manatee County Audubon Society, holding just about every position at some time.


Don was predeceased by his first wife, Meryl Gates Bansen and his second wife, Betty Marshall Bansen. He is survived by his four children, Bruce Bansen, Barbara Sackstein (Howard), Beth Bansen and Donald C. Bansen, III; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, six step- great grandchildren and one great-great-stepgrandchild.


Don was a Quaker for most of his life but became a Methodist in 1983 and was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Bradenton. He was a volunteer (Courier) at Blake Medical Center from 1985 until 2020 when the pandemic cut that short. He moved to Freedom Village after his second wife passed.


Burial will be in Manasota Memorial Park.
