Mrs. Soper was born in Asheville and was the eldest of five
daughters of the late William and Carlee Smith Ledford. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary and Alma Ledford.
Alice touched many, many lives through her teaching first grade at Aycock School in Asheville, her military service and most of all her years of work in Family and Childrens' Service in Kansas City, MO. She loved most of all her work with disadvantaged people in Leesburg, FL. After retiring, she volunteered at the VA Medical Center in Asheville for six years.
She was a 60 year member of Eastern Star and belonged to Electa #228 at Hominy and was a member of Hominy Baptist Church. She also attended St. George's Episcopal Church in Asheville.
She is survived by two sisters, Virginia Trexler of Candler
and Gertrude Lewis of Rutherfordton; and many nieces and nephews.
