Dr. Felix "Goombah" Fenter
September 16, 1926 - April 1, 2023

Dr. Felix West "Goombah" Fenter passed away peacefully on April 1, 2023 in his home in Irving, TX surrounded by family and loved ones at the age of 96. He was preceded in death by his wife Raye Moore Fenter and is survived by his daughter Susan, son-in-law Panos Shiakolas, granddaughters Andrea and Evi, and grandson-in-law Anthony Bennici.

Dr. Fenter was born in 1926 on a farm in Paris, TX to parents Felix Franklin and Haidee West Fenter. In 1944, he joined the Navy, teaching at the USN Advanced Electronics School and then serving on the USS Helena, which would take him to China, Japan, and Panama. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he met Raye Moore Fenter on a blind date in Dallas, which led to a long, wonderful marriage of 62 years and the birth of his beloved daughter Susan. Dr. Fenter attended The University of Texas at Austin, where he received his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and the first ever awarded Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering. Simultaneously, he worked at the University's Defense Research Laboratory.

Dr. Fenter had a magnificent career at Chance Vought Aircraft and its successor companies: LTV, Loral, and Lockheed Martin. He began as Senior Scientist with the Vought Research Center, was promoted to Senior Vice President for Advanced Programs and Technology with the LTV Missile Division, then became President of the Loral Vought Systems Corporation and Group Vice President of Missiles in Lockheed Martin Tactical Systems. During his career, the company became the premier developer and producer of Army missiles. These included the Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), Patriot PAC-3 Missile Defense System, and other missile and space systems, all currently used by the United States and its worldwide allies.

Dr. Fenter was a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and a Distinguished Graduate of the College of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He was inducted into The University of Texas at Arlington Engineering Hall of Achievement and was made a member of the Order of Saint Barbara by the U.S. Army Field Artillery Association. He served on advisory committees at The University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, Southern Methodist University, and The University of Texas at Arlington.

After his retirement, he founded Andev Corporation as Chairman and CEO, a technology development company that focused on the application of automation and robotics to selected surgical procedures.

Dr. Fenter loved to travel all over the world with Raye and photograph their adventures. He was also an avid reader. One of his greatest joys was his role as "Goombah" to his granddaughters Andrea and Evi, and he loved being nearby to watch them grow up and eventually start careers of their own.

He will always be remembered as both a highly accomplished and beloved individual who dedicated his life's work to the pursuit of knowledge and the greater good.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75243.
