East Calais, July 7 - Mrs. Kate Haskell passed away at her home at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning. The cause of her death was heart trouble. Mrs. Haskell had been in her usual health until she fell on June 26. Since that time she has been confined to her bed most of the time, but was able to sit up for a short time the day before her death.

Kate A. Slayton Haskell was born in Calais July 6, 1846, the daughter of Jerry J. and Betsey (Kendall) Slayton, and has always lived in town. She has lived on the farm where she died for 50 years. Since the death of her husband, she has lived in the family with her daughter. She was married to John Quincy Haskell April 1, 1871, who died March 9, 1901. Two children were born to them; Robert L., who died in youth and Dora B., now the wife of George Balentine, who survives her.

She also leaves one grandson, Ralph E. Balentine, and 5 great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at the house Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in East Calais Cemetery.
