CHARLESTON -

James Addison Ingle III died on Saturday, April 1, 2023.

Ad was born in Charleston on December 10, 1927, the son of James Addison Ingle, Jr., and Helen Jervey Ingle.

He married Helen Garvin on March 31, 1951, and enjoyed 56 years of marriage until her death in 2007.

Ad attended Charleston Day School, Episcopal High School and graduated from the University of The South in 1950. He served 2 years in the Army Air Corps. Ad had a long and successful career in the insurance business until his retirement in 2004. He was an active, lifelong member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church and was involved in many civic and social organizations. Ad was a member of the Carolina Yacht Club, the South Carolina Society, the St. Andrew's Society and the Charleston Ancient Artillery Society, to name a few. He enjoyed sailing, duck hunting, tennis and the company of his many friends. Ad was regarded as a man of integrity and kindness. His deep love for his family, especially his granddaughters, was ever apparent.

Ad is survived by his three sons and their families: Addison and Maia of Charleston, Peter and Oksana of Monterrey, CA, and David and Eliza of Charleston; his four granddaughters, Addison, Elizabeth, Helen and Olivia.

He is also survived by his second wife, Jeanne deSaussure Smith, whom he married in 2013.

He was predeceased by his son, Lawton; first wife, Helen and his two sisters, Helen Ball and Mary Bissell.

His Funeral Service will be at 4:00 PM, Thursday, April 6, 2023, at the Graveside, Magnolia Cemetery. Following the burial, the family will host a reception at the Carolina Yacht Club.
