Fern Dell Kelly was born to parents Tweetie Williams Kelly and George Kelly in Oklahoma. At the age of five, Fern's mother died and she was sent to live with her Grandparents. Young Fern was pregnant with her first daughter, Richie at the young age of 14. At that time she was sent her to live with an aunt and uncle. No records were found that Fern married Richie's father Leroy Brown.
In 1935/6 Fern marries Lee Ballenger Brooks, known as L.B. Another daughter was brought into the family, Ernestine in 1936.
L. B. was a devoted father to both young daughters.
In 1949, Fern marries Lawrence Dukes in California. Both daughters Richie "Jean" and Ernestine are living in California then.
At the age of 67, Fern passed away and is buried at Rolling Hills Memorial Park in Richmond, California.
