Gene Arter, age 87, of Glenwood, died Saturday, February 16, 2008.

He was born on August 18, 1920 in Blackwell, Arkansas, the son of Jack Arter and Lillie Eddy Arter.

He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II and a Christian in his faith. A 33rd degree Mason, he was a member of the Buffalo Gap Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Verna Arter of Glenwood; his daughter, Reba Jean White of Monticello; two granddaughters; his brother, Bill Arter of Paris, Texas; three sisters, Juanita Smith of Fort Worth, Texas, Johnnie Davenport and Susan Pratt both of Germantown, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 18, 2008 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Bro. Raymond Dees officiating.

Visitation will be Monday, 10:00 AM until service time.

Interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Masonic rites will be given by the Buffalo Gap Masonic Lodge.
