Jeffrey Shane Cannon of Rockwall, Texas, went to be with our Lord on March 24th, 2023 at 55
years of age. Shane was born on November 17, 1967, to parents Wallace and Denell Cannon.
Shane is survived by his wife Christi Cannon, daughter Jessica Stiles and husband Prentice,
daughters McKenzie Poynter and Julie Cannon and son, Jace Poynter. Shane has two
grandsons, Kayden (age 9) and Wyatt, who is expected in May. Shane also leaves behind his
brother Mark Cannon and his wife Deidre, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and
friends. Shane is preceded in death by his parents Wallace and Denell, brother Michael
Cannon, and nephew Cade Cannon.
Shane was born and raised in Plainview, Texas until moving to Jacksonville where he attended
high school. Shane always knew he wanted a career in law enforcement and it became his life's
passion. While attending Tyler Junior College, he began his career at the Texas State
Penitentiary in Huntsville from 1987-1993. He worked for the Cherokee County Sheriff's
Department from 1990-1993 and moved to the Nacogdoches Police Department from 1993-
1995.
In 1995, Shane started his career with the Mesquite Police Department. During his tenure he
served as a Patrol Officer, School Resource Officer at John Horn High School, and Criminal
Investigator. He retired from Mesquite on October 31, 2014.
During his career, he worked with the statewide gang task force and received numerous
commendations throughout his career. While with the Mesquite Police Department, he was
appointed to a federal gang task force and participated in several very impactful violent
offender round-ups. Shane was awarded the honor of Key Investigator on the Texas RICO
Investigations.
After retiring from the Mesquite Police force, he joined the Rockwall County District Attorney's
office and was quickly promoted to Chief Criminal Investigator, where he served until his last day.
Shane loved live music, especially if it was Texas Country, drinking good cold beer, playing the
air drums, working out, and Christi in a sundress. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Texas
Rangers fan, his blue Jeep had his heart, he loved sending and receiving inappropriate memes and jokes and sharing stories with his friends. He also loved floating the river and spending time with his friends and family.
Services for Shane will be held on Friday, March 31st at Lakepointe Church in Rockwall, Texas,
at 11:00 a.m. Eastgate Funeral Home is handling all arrangements.
