Abel B. Bankson, 90, 1619 Grandview, a retired grocer and Sioux City native, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 1989 in a Sioux City nursing home after a long illness. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Covenant Church, with the Rev. Marc Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Sunday, with family present from 6-8 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Mr. Bankson was born Jan. 24, 1899 and lived all his life here. He married Malita Knecht Oct. 11, 1925 in Sioux City. He was part-owner/operator of the Bankson Brothers Grocery on West Seventh Street for many years, until opening his own grocery at 27th and Court, which he operated until his retirement. He was a member of First Covenant Church. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Russell of Minneapolis, Leslie of Rockwell, Md. and Ben Bankson of Brooklyn, N. Y.; a sister, Hanna Fricken of Fond Du Lac, Wis., six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
