Napa,

William F. Jenkins passed away October 29th, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born to Carl and Sybil Jenkins on March 2, 1940 in Fort Smith, AR. His family traveled to CA to join his father, who was employed in the Richmond shipyards in 1942 during WWII. Bill joined Troop 111, Boy Scouts of America in Pt. Richmond in 1951and earned many scout awards. He graduated to Explorer Scouts a few years later and earned their highest award, the "Silver Award", which was equivalent to the Eagle Scout Award.

During his high school years in Richmond, he was a member of the track and field team. In his senior year, he attended De Anza High School and he joined the US Army in 1959. Upon completion of his training as a paratrooper, he became an Airborne Ranger assigned to Germany near what was then the East German Border. He was on active duty until 1961 and honorably discharged from the Army Reserve in 1965.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church; Napa Valley Lodge #93, F.&A.M.; and a Pheasant Hunting Club. He has been a well liked member of the Napa community since 1979 when the family moved here from the bay area. His hobbies included fly fishing, bird hunting, and traveling with Ruth, his wife of 40 years.

In 1967, he married Ruth Davis and together they raised his two children from a first marriage. In order to further his education, he was motivated by his "can do" attitude, to go back to school and obtain his BA & MA at San Francisco State University. After graduation in 1973, he worked as a Recreation Therapist at several facilities until retirement from the CA State Hospital System in 1994. He then became self employed as a Certified Massage Therapist until 2002 when his wife, Ruth, retired.
