George V. Watters, 83, of Rt. 1, Whitley City, died July 10 at the VA Hospital in Lexington after a lingering illness. Funeral services were conducted July 13 at 2 p.m. at McCreary County Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. T.J. Watters officiating. Burial was in Laurel Cemetery. He was born Nov. 13, 1895, in Whitley City to the late Henry and Jane Hayes Watters. he was a member of Ross Grove Baptist church, was a coal miner and operated a dry goods store. Survivors include his wife, Minnie, Whitley City; two children, George Watters, Jr., Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., and Christine Cook, Piqua, Ohio; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; five stepchildren, Beatrice Banks and Beulah Angel, Lexington, Duwayne Bowling, Pine Knot, Linda Ann Holmes, Dallas, Texas, Roberta Johnson, Whitley City; a half-brother, Herman Watters; step-brother, Leonard Hayes; half-sisters, Jalie Branscum, Genevie Bartell, and Gladys Combest. Preceding him in death were a daughter, Gladys Watters; six brothers, Harvey, Joe, Jeff, Virgil, Jim and John Watters; four sisters, Mattie, Ida, Susie and Ola; three half-brothers, Mark, Homer, and Charlie Watters; and a half-sister, Grace Flynn. McCreary County Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
