Bobby Boatman was born February 18, 1910 in Goodhue County, Minnesota and attended school with and was a good friend of Luverne Clair Willis Carlson who was also born in 1910. She attended Central High School in Red Wing, Minnesota finishing in 1929. She attended nursing school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse.

In 1936 Bobby met Adeline V. Biersdorfer, who would later become Carlson. Bobby & Adeline lived in the same apartment building and eventually lived together with Bobby's cousin. Bobby invited Adeline to a dance in Red Wing, where Adeline met her future husband, Luverne Carlson.

Bobby loved to dance and meet people. During World War 2, Bobby went to Los Angeles, California, and worked in a hospital. In 1945 Bobby returned to Minneapolis, Minnesota and in 1946 started work at Dayton's Department Store located at 7th Street and Nicollet Avenue South. She started in the gift-wrapping department and later moved to the women's coat department located on the 2nd floor.

Bobby had a sister named Florence who married Ray Selk.

Adeline and Luverne Carlson were engaged in early 1939 and married September 15, 1942. Bobby was a Godmother to their daughter Cheryl Aleda Carlson who was born April 4, 1947. She was very close with the Carlsons even vacationing with them.

Bobby died of pancreatic cancer after 4 months of pain at age 81.

She donated her body to the Mayo Clinic located in Rochester, Olmsted County, Minnesota for medical science.
