Harold Whittemore "Buddy" Sherrill passed peacefully just after midnight on Friday, March 24th at his home.

Born August 13, 1926 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late O.T. and Ruth Sherrill.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Maynard Sherrill; sister, Martha Lee Matthews and her son, R.J.

Buddy Sherrill lived life to the fullest and held nothing back when it came to the Sherrill Furniture family, his people and business that he loved dearly. "After 73 years of consistent, steady and caring leadership, all of us at Sherrill Furniture Company have grown to love him deeply" says Thad Monroe, President. "Buddy's commitment to local craftspeople and willingness to invest in this community to keep casegoods and upholstery manufacturing going strong is something that everyone in the furniture industry has benefited from."

As the furniture manufacturing industry migrated en masse to Asia for several decades, Buddy Sherrill stood fast by his vision to sustain a meaningful domestic furniture manufacturing presence in the Catawba Valley of North Carolina, USA. Buddy doubled down on his commitment by shortening the supply chain for production of raw materials needed for furniture manufacturing by bringing cushion manufacturing, cotton manufacturing, solid wood frame production and shipping fleet in house as well.

A member of First United Methodist Church, Buddy was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a member of Lake Hickory Country Club, and enjoyed boating and cars. Even through all of his success, he was a loving father and mentor.

He is survived by his children: Ruth Ann Sherrill Poulos and husband Nicholas of Scottsdale, AZ, Harold Whittemore (Whitt) Sherrill, Jr. and wife Layne of Littleton, CO, Charles Truman Sherrill and wife Jeannie of Hickory, NC; grandchildren: Sara Ann Licher, Ben Taylor Poulos, Harold Whittemore Sherrill, III, Morgan Reece Sherrill, Sullivan Maynard Sherrill, Jesse Suzanne Sherrill, Charlee Catherine Sherrill; a great-grandson, Camden Bradley Licher; sister, Sarah "Tootsie" Sherrill Furlong; nieces: Becky, Libby, Lee, Debra, Jill and Laura; a number of great-nieces and nephews; and his Sherrill Furniture family.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at First United Methodist Church in Hickory with the Rev. Paul Christy officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
