Paul Bridges, the son of John L. Bridges, Sr. and Ann (Fry) Bridges, was born April 1, 1907 in Lewis, Kansas. At a young age his family moved to Liberal, Kansas where Paul started school.

In about 1917 they joined a group of friends from Lewis and Liberal to homestead near Clayton, New Mexico. While his parents and little sister, Zelma, rode in a wagon with their possessions, Paul followed in a cart pulled by his pony.

They lived in a "dugout" (an underground home) on their claim. There was no well on their claim, so Paul and his sister would haul water from a neighbor's well in a barrel on his cart. Conditions were less than ideal in New Mexico, and by January 1920 the family had returned to Lewis, Kansas.

After his father became the manager of the Gano Grain Elevator in Meade, Paul came to Meade in 1924. In 1938
when his father retired, Paul became the manager of the Gano Elevator for several years. He also had extensive farming interest about Meade. He was a member of the Meade Methodist Church and served many years as a Sunday school and church officer.

He married Ada Feldman in 1931. They were the parents of two daughters and grandparents of six grandsons.

Mr. Bridges took an active interest in his community and Meade County. He served two terms as County Commissioner of this district and also served on the township board before becoming a county official. He had deep convictions and did not hesitate to stand up for those things that he thought were right. However, if proved wrong, he was always willing to accept the change. He was an excellent farmer and businessman.
