Norbert Michael Schommer died March 2, 2008, at his home in Deltona. He was the son of Casper and Kathryn Wieland Schommer. He was married to Marguerite Ruddy Schommer who pre deceased him in 1987. The only surviving relatives are several nieces and nephews and his wife, Therese E. Vitacolonna Schommer. Mr. Schommer worked most of his life with the Federal Government - National Bureau of Standards, Treasury Dept. and retired from the Panama Canal Company, Canal Zone in 1972, as Chief Budget Officer of the Budget and Statistical Section of the Supply Division, a position he held since 1957. His service of over 33 years were interrupted from 1943-1946 to join the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific Theatre, participating in the invasions of the Marianas Islands and Okinawa. He attended Southeastern University and was graduated from the LaSalle Extension University. He was a charter member of the Canal Zone Chapter of the Federal Government Accountants Society. He was a member of and active in the U.S. Power Squadron, Boy Scouts of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Deltona, the Nocturnal Adoration Society and an Honorary Life Mem-ber of the Knights of Columbus. Friends are being received at the Deltona Memorial Funeral Home, 1295 Saxon Blvd., Orange City, FL 386-775- 4260 on Friday, March 7, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Our Lady of The Lakes Catholic Church at 1 p.m. Entombment will follow in Deltona Memorial Gardens, Orange City.
