Mrs. Yvonne Raines Newsome passed away on Monday, March 20th, 2023.

Yvonne was born at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, GA on September 26th, 1939 as Iona Yvonne Raines to parents John Hoyt Raines and Amanda Inez Burel Raines of Atlanta.

Yvonne grew up in Atlanta and graduated from Fulton High School in 1957. She loved music and played piano often at the church she attended, where she also taught Sunday school.

Yvonne met Grady Newsom on a double date. They later married on November 18th, 1960 at Confederate Avenue Baptist Church. She and Grady began their small family when their daughter Cheryl was born in October 1962 followed by Kelly in October if 1967.

After Kelly was born, Yvonne left her job at International Harvester where she worked as a secretary to stay home with her children. In March of 1973, the family moved to Jonesboro where Grady and Yvonne would remain for the next 50 years. During this time, Yvonne became involved with the girls at their schools by becoming a "Room Mother." You could always catch Yvonne at softball and cheerleading practice and games as well as organizing rummage and garage sales as fund raisers for the girls teams. Yvonne later returned to the work force where she eventually retired from Garner Construction as an office manager and administrative assistant.

Her first grandson Brett was born in Champagne Illinois in December of 1986, follow by Bryan in Alabama in 1990 and Karissa in Georgia in 1996. In July 2022, Bryan married Janelle to complete the circle of grandchildren. Yvonne loved spending time with her grandkids and spoiling them no matter how old they became.

Yvonne was a member of First Baptist Church Jonesboro since 1977 where she was active until 2017 when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. She loved her ladies Sunday school class with whom she stayed active with as well. Some of her favorite programs were The Living Christmas Tree, July 4th Celebrate God & Country program, and any programs her children and grandkids were involved in.

Yvonne was preceded in death by bother parents John (1999) and Inez (2006), as well as her husband Grady in May 2022. She is survived by her two daughters: Cheryl L. Bentley of Alpharetta and Kelly (Darryl) N. Hockett of Hampton; brother: Larry H. Raines of McDonough; grandchildren: Brett H. Bentley of Alpharetta, Bryan C. (Janelle) Bentley of Alpharetta and Karissa M. Hockett of Hampton; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews and grand fur babies.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the Chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2023, and 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the funeral home
