Sarah Castle's husband was Major James Chambers, "an officer in the service of King William III, who was granted one of the confiscated estates in the north of Ireland." Major James fought in the Battle of the Boyau in 1690.

With James, Sarah was the mother of nine children, four sons and four daughters: James, Robert, Joseph, Benjamin, Esther, Ruhamma, Nancy Ann, and Jane. According to two of the Chambers family histories, the family was one of wealth and the boys were well educated.

After their parents' deaths, the children of James Chambers embarked on a journey to America, landing in Philadelphia, and settling in or near the Cumberland Valley in Pennsylvania.
