Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 20, 2023 at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home in Wichita Falls, Texas with Rev. Jessie Edwards, pastor of Newcastle Baptist Church, officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 PM on March 20, 2023, at the Newcastle Cemetery in Newcastle, Texas.
Ed was born on January 2, 1946 in Olney, Texas to the late T.J. and Ruth (Rux) Routon. He graduated from the Olney High School in 1964. He married the late Jean Renee Mayes on April 13, 1968 in Archer City, Texas. He graduated from Midwestern State University in 1976 with Bachelor of Science in Education.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was the commanding officer of the 670 Transportation Company. For his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star and other Vietnam service medals.
Ed worked for Sprague Electric in Wichita Falls, Texas for 18 years after his service in the U.S. Army. Then Ed started and ran his own business (Ed Routon Custom Homes) with his late wife Jean Renee Routon for over 20 years until his retirement.
After the passing of his wife Jean Renee Routon, he reconnected with his old high school sweetheart, Lynn Ellen Lunsford. Ed and Lynn Ellen Lunsford were married on November 9, 2012 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jean Renee Routon; two brothers David Routon and Mike Routon; and sister DeAlva Mitchell. He is survived by his wife Lynn Ellen Routon; four children, Steven Routon of Platte City, Missouri, Brian Routon of Wichita Falls, Texas, Mitchell Routon of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Dalton Routon of Lubbock, Texas.
