August Gorden, Jr, the fifth child born to the late August Gorden, Sr and Louise (Davis) Gorden on February 15, 1941, in West Memphis, Arkansas. He moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 12, attended Indianapolis Public Schools, and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School.

August Gorden, Jr professed a faith in Christ at an early age in West Memphis, Arkansas. August Gorden, Jr gained the name "Moose" in high school as a fullback, linebacker on his high school football team, and wrestled, too. He also served in the United States Navy and later united in holy matrimony to Callie E. Battle on October 28, 1967. This union was blessed with two children, Gregory A. Gorden and Erica E. G. Bailey.

August Gorden, Jr worked for 40 years at Indianapolis Chrysler Foundry, attended Indiana Vocational Technical College (Ivy Tech), and retired in 2004 as a Machine Repairman. August Gorden, Jr was very big on family, BBQs, and promoting his Christian values. In his spare time, you would find him coaching his son or daughter's baseball, basketball, football, or other team sport. He was well known in the neighborhood as "Coach Gorden." He also enjoyed gardening and fishing when he had the chance along with telling "dad" jokes.

August Gorden, Jr also found time to serve on the Deacon Board at Greater St. Mark Baptist Church and later united with Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church. August Gorden, Jr. joyously served as a Deacon, Assistant Superintendent, Male Chorus Member, and Brotherhood Member at Good Shepherd. He was affectionately known for leading devotion with such songs as "Call Him Up."

August Gorden, Jr departed his earthly life on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at the age of 82 years young. He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Louse Gorden, Sr, Siblings: Louella Graves, Gladis Gorden, and Monroe Gorden, Sr.

He leaves the following individuals to cherish his loving memories: wife, Callie Gorden; children, Gregory Gorden (Shenika) and Erica Bailey; grandchild: Christopher Gorden; siblings: Olevia Ann O'Neal (Calvin) and Alean Cunningham (Robert); and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and cherished friends. Services were held on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
