After graduating from Massey Hill High School in 1952 where he lettered in baseball, basketball, and football, he attended Campbell Junior College for two years on a baseball scholarship. He joined the United States Air Force and while on active duty completed requirements to earn a Liberal Arts Degree at Syracuse University. During his Air Force career, he flew a variety of transport aircraft worldwide and flew rescue helicopters during Vietnam. After serving 20 years, he retired from the USAF at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel with a rating of Senior Pilot and Navigator. In 1978 he moved to Savannah to work with Flight Safety International as an Instructor Pilot for Gulfstream Aircraft, where he was a Chief Pilot and FAA Designated Examiner qualified in the G-1, G-2, G-3, and G-4.
He was a member of the Wilmington Island United Methodist church and a member of the Wilmington Island Club, now the Savannah Country Club, where he played golf regularly in tournaments and the weekly blitz. He held the Super Senior Championship title for several years.
Bo was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Betsy Ann; son, Alan; brother, Harvey Jr.; and grandson, Kenny.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 67 years, Ann Walden; daughter, Amy Behr (Leon); son, Andrew (Angie); granddaughters, Megan Cleary (Cody), and Taylor; grandsons, Andrew Jr. (Ashley), Mitchell, and Allen; great grandchildren, Kaden, Allie, Ace, Caroline, and Campbell; sister, Virginia Mylks (John); a nephew, and two nieces.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Wilmington Island United Methodist Church with the funeral service to immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Doug Walker presiding. Graveside service with military honors will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Big Rockfish Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Hope Mills, NC with Rev Ron Williams presiding.
