Donald Val Osborne, Age 91 of Solomons, Maryland passed away on March 13, 2023 at Asbury Solomons Healthcare. He was born on August 7, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois and was the son of the late Valentine and Bernetta Osborne. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Georgianna M. Osborne.
Donald is also survived by his children, Gayle (Chris) Bryan, Phillip (Mary Jean) Osborne, Paul Osborne and Eileen Osborne; and grandchildren Kimberly (David) Hayes, Jennifer Bryan, Andrew Osborne and Daniel Osborne; and great grandchildren Jordan Hayes and Carter Hayes.
Donald graduated from the University of Illinois in 1955 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. He joined the United States Air Force upon graduation and served in the Air Force Veterinary Corp until his retirement in 1985. During that time, he also acquired a Master's Degree in Public Health which was very useful for a veterinarian serving in the Air Force. His military assignments included bases in Alabama, Goose Bay in Labrador, Texas, Philippines, California, Guam, Mississippi, Florida and Maryland. After Donald's retirement from the Air Force, he switched careers and spent 24 years as a tax preparer and instructor with H&R Block.
Donald was well known for being an avid gardener for most of his life. Beginning in 2001, he became very active in daylily gardening. He and Georgianna joined three local daylily clubs as well as regional and national clubs. Before moving from La Plata, Maryland to Asbury Solomons in April of 2017, he was tending to 1,400 varieties of daylilies. He continued with 100 daylilies at Asbury Solomons in the resident's garden and another 100 at his granddaughter's family home in nearby Lusby, Maryland.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 from 10AM until time of service at 11AM at Asbury Solomons, 11100 Asbury Circle, Solomons, MD 20688. Military interment service to follow at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery.
