Lonnie was born in Great Falls, Montana, December 7, 1946, to Bonnie and Larry Hortick. He grew up in Helena, Montana and attended Catholic schools and two years at Carroll College. In 1967, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served on the USS Joliet and USS Halsey for six years during the Vietnam War. As a boy he never learned to swim. One day he looked out at the ocean from his ship and wondered what he was doing surrounded by all that water.
He married Nina Kerry Zutant in in 1969. That union was later annulled . Lonnie spent most of his career working with computers, being one of the first technicians to install ATMs in Sweden and Norway. He later worked for Dell for many years in Texas. In 1979, he married Susan Nordstrom in East Helena, Montana. They had two sons. They later divorced and Lonnie raised his sons in Texas.
His parents, his stepfather Francis, and his younger brother David preceded him in death. He is survived by sons and grandson who was his pride and joy, all who reside in Texas. He is also survived by two younger sisters both in Montana, and half-brother of Minnesota.
