George A Holt
ENTERPRISE - Funeral services for George A. Holt, 77 southern Utah pioneer who died here Friday were held in the Enterprise ward chapel Sunday.
Mr. Holt had been a prominent worker in the church, being bishop of the local ward for 23 years, and had been active in civic affairs.
He was born May 28 1858, at Springville, in a wagon box while his parents were traveling toward southern Utah. Mr. Holt was the son of James and Parthenia Overton Holt natives of Tennessee.
Three years after he was born, his parents moved to Washington, and two years later to Long Valley, but they were again forced to move due to Indian depredations.
In 1872 they settled on a ranch two miles from Mountain Meadows, where Mr. Holt married Nancy Jane Hunt in 1878.
He is survived by his widow and nine sons and daughters, George O Holt, Amos Holt, Mrs. Joseph Terry, Mrs. Bart Farnsworth, Heber Holt, Joseph Holt, Mrs. Ivor Clove and Leland Holt all of Enterprise, and Mrs. Milda Murray, Hyrum. Also surviving are a brother H.D. Holt, and a sister Mrs. Rachel Cottam both of St. George.
