Mildred Yearian Cranston 96, died Sat., March 22, 2003, following a short illness at the English Valley Care Center in North English.
She was born Aug. 2, 1906, near Deep River, the daughter of Sidney and Rosa Richards Yearian. She grew up and attended school in the Deep River community. She didn't graduate with her class as she had to help with the fall harvesting each year. She later studied and earned her diploma when she was 50 years old.
She was united in marriage to Raymond Cranston on Sept. 26, 1926, near Deep River.
They farmed in the Deep River, What Cheer and Keswick communities and moved into Keswick in 1952. She operated the Keswick Telephone Switch Board for several years. She and her daughter owned and operated Keswick's Home Town Market for 17 years and she later helped with kitchen work at her daughter's Teet & Tobe's Restaurant until she was 90 years of age. She was a member of the Keswick United Methodist Church and the Garden Club.
She is survived by five children, Robert Cranston, Marilyn Baethke and Wayne Cranston, all of Keswick; Ronald Cranston of Dobbins, Calif., and Jessie Hale of Wellman; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Reynolds of Sigourney; 14 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1971; one son, Harlan Sidney; an infant sister, Jessie Yearian; one brother, Menzo Yearian; one son-in- law, Merlyn Hale; and a step-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wed., March 26 (today) at the United Methodist Church in Keswick with the Pastor Jim Stout officiating. Burial will be in the Sorden Cemetery near Keswick.
A memorial fund has been established for the Keswick United Methodist Church.
