DOCTOR RICHARD BEDON SCREVEN was born 6 September 1778, and died in 1856.

He spent his life in St. Luke's Parish , Beaufort District , South Carolina, and between the occupation of physician and planter he spent a long and honored career.

He married first, 1 May 1800, Alice Pendarvis, born 28 June 1781. She was his first cousin and the oldest living daughter of his uncle, Josiah Pendarvis Junior, who changed his last name to Bedon some two years after their marriage. A list of their children is shown on her gravesite.

He married second Mary Wilkinson Hamilton on 9 December 1819. She was the widow of Dr. Nathaniel H. Rhodes, and the daughter of Governor Paul Hamilton and Mary, daughter of Edward Wilkinson. She passed away 8 October 1830.

They had children as follows :
1). Eliza Hamilton Screen, b. Oct. 20, 1820 ; d. Oct. 26, 1900, # 100440369
m. Dr. James Strobbart
2). Benjamin Smith Screen, b. Nov. 20, 1821 ; d. May 15, 1858. # 121701857
m. Cornelia Ann. Archer

He married third, Charlotte Wilcox, no issue.

Currently there is no gravesite location. Dr. Screven was probably buried in a family cemetery on one of the many land holdings he and his relatives owned. More research is needed on the Screven , Pendarvis and Bedon family grave locations. They appear to have been somewhat important in South Carolina, Dr. Screven having married a Governor's daughter, yet their final disposition is still unknown.
